GETTING RID OF HAEMORRHOIDS
Hemorrhoids are swollen and dilated blood vessels on the lower part of the anus and rectum often accompanied by intense itching and throbbing pain. These blood vessels become swollen due to increased pressure within them. Also known as piles.

CAUSES:
They are caused by:
-Pregnancy
-Obesity
-Profuse diarrhea or constipation
-Anal intercourse
-Prolonged sitting
-Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease)

SYMPTOMS OF HAEMORRHOIDS
The signs of hemorrhoids include;
Painless bleeding
Anal itching
Constant feeling to have a bowel movement
Pain during bowel movement

HOW TO CURE HAEMORRHOIDS

Hemorrhoids can go away after some time but if insistent there are natural ways to treat them at home.
These include;
Taking lots of fluids to soften stool
Going to the bathroom as soon as you feel the urge
 Lots of exercise
 Taking breaks of your job includes lots of sitting
To ease the itching and pain soak in a bathtub with warm water for 15 minutes two or three times a day and after bowel movement
Do not scratch the area as it only makes the irritation to worsen
Ice the area
For relief, rub over the counter creams. If you are using corticosteroid cream do not use for more than a week unless prescribed by the doctor as it makes the skin thinner and causes irritation.
Take painkillers such as paracetamol, codeine and ibuprofen. If you experience excessive bleeding don’t use ibuprofen as it is an anti-inflammatory non steroid cream. Also avoid codeine if you experience constipation
You can also take laxatives to help empty the bowels
-There are also non-surgical procedures to remove hemorrhoids:

i. Banding
This involves use of a tight elastic band on the base of hemorrhoids to cut off blood supply.

ii. Sclerotherapy
This includes injections which contain a chemical solution in the blood vessels of your back passage. It numbs the nerve endings at the site of injection and hardens the tissue of hemorrhoid. After 4 to 6 weeks the hemorrhoid shrivels up.

iii. Electrotherapy
During electrotherapy, a protoctoscope is inserted into the anus to locate the pile. An electric current is then passed through a small metal probe placed at the base of the pile above the dental line causing blood supply to thicken thus shrinking it.

Surgery can also be used to remove piles especially if they are large ,very painful and are bleeding. This procedure is called hemorrhoidectomy where the doctor makes small cuts around the anus to slice them away. It is normally an outpatient procedure and recovery takes about 2 to 6 weeks.

All in all hemorrhoids can be avoided by regular exercise, plenty of water, taking diet rich in fibre and avoiding straining during bowel movement.
